First-ever Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award presented to Janelle Bruland

HERNDON, Va., March 10, 2015 —The inaugural Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award was presented to Janelle Bruland, president and CEO of Management Services Northwest, Inc. Bruland’s company has been named one of the fastest growing private companies in the nation by “Inc.” magazine. In the past seven years, she has grown her company four times in size, expanded into five states, and has added more than 200 employees to her team.

MSNW Wins Landscape Image Award

WALP Award4 Management Services Northwest (MSNW) wins prestigious Landscape Image Award. WALP, the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals held their annual award banquet on January 24, 2015 and MSNW was presented an image award for one of their landscape renovation projects at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center located in Bellingham, Washington. Ben VanDyken, Project Manager at MSNW, attended and accepted the award for the company.

His professional background brings diversity to the team with twenty years as Bellingham Police Chief and as a community trainer and presenter for the US Department of Treasury. Three local companies land on Inc. magazine’s fastest-growing list

Three Whatcom County companies have landed on Inc. magazine’s 500/5000 list of America’s fastest-growing companies. All three local companies were also honored for making the list five consecutive years.

Here they are, with a few details:

— Bellingham-based Saturna Capital Corporation: Saturna’s three-year revenue growth of 79 percent earned a ranking of 3,707 on the 2013 list Saturna Capital debuted on the  Inc. 500 list in 2009 with a rank of 408.

Last year the company had $42.5 million in revenue.

A private, employee-owned firm, Saturna Capital manages over $4 billion and operates three wholly-owned subsidiaries, including Saturna Brokerage Services in Bellingham, Washington, Saturna Trust Company in Reno, Nevada, and the investment research and advisory firm Saturna Sendirian Berhad in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“Recent innovations continue to lay the groundwork for future expansion,” said Jane Carten, president and CEO of Saturna, in a news release. “This fall we anticipate the launch of our first mutual fund in Malaysia, which will focus on investment opportunities in ASEAN economies, while here in the US we plan to roll out reduced-expense, institutional shares of our flagship Amana Funds.”

— Management Services NW of Ferndale ranked 3,155 on the list, posting 104 percent growth.

The company has 267 employees, adding 92 in the past three years, according to Inc. The company had an estimated revenue of $10 million in 2012.

— Pro CNC, a Bellingham machine shop, ranked 3,591, posting 84 percent growth. The company has 68 employees and had $9.1 million in estimated annual revenue last year.
